Records of release of Torymus sinensis Kamijo (Hymenoptera: Torymidae), an introduced biological control agent of chestnut gall wasp in Japan. Bulletin of the National Institute of Fruit Tree Science 163-178.
| Shirai Y., Adachi, Ishizue, Moriya, Seiichi (1999).
| Records of the release of Torymus sinensis, an introduced biological control agent of the chestnut gall wasp, Dryocosmus kuriphilus, in the fields were summarized. During the period from 1981 to 1999, the release was conducted in 64 localities covering from Hokkaido to Kagoshima Prefectures in Japan. In 1994, T. sinensis was the most frequently released at 15 localities in seven prefectures. Since then, the withered chestnut galls were often used as the source of such release. However, this method is not recommended to implement biological control because the facultative hyperparasitoids might be introduced unintentionally. Some considerations were also brought up on how to confirm the colonization of a newly released T. sinensis and evaluate the biological control effects on chestnut gall wasp in the future.
